  25.    This  article  was written really for those who don't know much about
  26. Basketball or the NBA league.  It will go through the basic rules of the
  27. game, and how the season works, so you can hopefully get involved in the
  28. wonderful game of B'Ball.

  31. |1-TEAMS

  34.    Basketball  teams  consist  of  five  players  on  court  at one, and
  35. substitutes.  The five which begin are on court at the start of the game
  36. are  called  the  'starting  five',  and the substitutes are called 'the
  37. bench'.

  41. |1-SCORING

  44. There are only three types of scoring:
  45.  
  46. 3 point shot - taken from outside a semicircle known as the perimeter.
  47.  A three point shot is often referred to as 'shooting from downtown'.
  48.  
  49. 2 point shot - taken from anywhere inside the perimeter.  This includes
  50.  slam dunks and lay ups.
  51.  
  52. 1 point free throw - taken after a foul from the free throw line within
  53.  the key.

  59. The  NBA  league is split into two conferences (East and West), and four
  60. divisions (Atlantic, Central, Midwest & Pacific) as follows:

  63.       because they're so crap they're hardly ever mentioned. :)

  122. CHICAGO  BULLS  -  Last  years Playoff winners.  Considered the best, no
  123. questions asked.  Their team hasn't changed much since last year either.

  125. Players to watch: Michael Jordan - Some say the best player in the NBA.
  126.                                    Has perfected almost every attack
  127.                                    move, esp the jump shot this season.
  128.                   Scottie Pippen - Combined with Jordan a dazzling
  129.                                    attack force.
  130.                   Dennis Rodman  - NBA's badboy, recently suspened from
  131.                                    twelve games because of kicking a
  132.                                    photographer. Easily noticable
  133.                                    because of his multi-coloured hair.

  136. ORLANDO MAGIC - Beaten by the bulls in last years conference finals.
  137.                 This season missing Shaquille O'Neal who transferred to
  138.                 The L.A Lakers, which could be a blow to the teams
  139.                 performance.

  141. Players to watch: Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway - Keeping the team alive
  142.                                               this year. Very fast.

  145. SEATTLE SUPERSONICS - Last years runners up return with the dynamic duo
  146.                       Of Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton.
  147.  
  148. Players to watch: Shawn "Rain Man" Kemp - Brilliant player probably
  149.                                           best known for his earth
  150.                                           shattering slam dunks.
  151.  
  152.                   Gary "The Glove" Payton - Watch ouf for his alley
  153.                                             oops to Kemp. Also an
  154.                                             excellent player in his own
  155.                                             right.

  158. These  were  the  main  teams  last  year,  although things seem to have
  159. changed vastly.

  163. Shaquille "Shaq" O'Neal - L.A. Lakers

  165. Moved  from  Orlando.   Very  Powerful Centre Forward also known for his
  166. dunks.

  171. Moved from Phoenix. Fast and versitile player with quite a temper.
